Peru through the colors



The colours in the different cultures could explain us how this culture is, their tradition, their thinking, their customs, the history, their origins, the evolution, etc.

Talk about colours in a specific place and time show a universe of things that reflect the reality in the world that around the situation.

Now we will look the meaning of the colors in Peru


Red





It Symbolize:



  • Healthy soul
  • The earth
  • Patriotism
  • Blood (poured out in a important war) 
  • Traditional activities (The spun)
  • Hardiness
  • Bravery
  • Strength & Valour

The red is one of the main colors of the peruvian culture, because represented the Inca war and that it was a symbol of the blood poured out by the heroes and martyrs of that war (1). Red can symbolize a healthy soul, and for some native peoples, it is symbolic of the earth, combined with white has patriotic connotations (2). Is an important color in the traditional ancestral clothes.

White






It Symbolize:



  • Angels
  • Good health, 
  • Good time.
  • Purity
  • Patriotism
  • Feedom
  • Social justice
  • Honesty
  • Peace

White is a color associated with angels, good health, and time. White used with red has patriotic connotations (3) also represent the purity of feelings of freedom, social justice, honesty, and peace (4). 

Black





It Symbolize:



  • Funerals
  • Mourning
  • Strength

Black is a funeral color, associated with grief and mourning. But it is also the favored color of clothing for men.

Blue





It Symbolize:



  • Space

For the Tupac Katari Indians of Peru, blue stands for space. A woman who wears a blue shawl is either engaged or married.

Green





It Symbolize:



  • Economy
  • Plenitude

Green can be symbolic of economy for the Tupac Katari, and plenitude for the earth that gives to the peruvian cultures.

Yellow






It Symbolize:



  • Traditional activities (The spun)


In Peru the yellow is used to make traditional clothes 

Orange





It Symbolize:



  • Society
  • Culture
  • Traditional activities (The spun)

Orange should not be used in any memorial arrangements. The Tupac Katari Indians associate orange with society and culture

Gray





It Symbolize:



  • Funeral

For some native populations, gray is the funeral color.


The meaning of the other colours are the same or the typical of the Latin American countries.
